This week we stay in the mode of a diversion from our normal blog about Psalm 91 and how it is the story of an eagle raising its young. (For more info on this subject, purchase my book, Heaven’s Eagle, from this website.)
The Bible tells us, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons” (Gen. 1:14). Hence, the events going on in the heavenlies often call attention to something God is doing, much as the star of Bethlehem called attention to the birth of Christ (Matt. 2:1-12).
This week we are discussing the blood moons appearing as a lunar tetrad during 2014 and 2015. A lunar tetrad is a series of four consecutive lunar eclipses that are total eclipses. They occur at 6 month intervals.
Each eclipse is referred to as a blood moon, due to the blood-red color of the full moon. Blood moons occur only at full moons and get their color because the earth comes between the sun and moon and filters out most light, except for wavelengths comparable to those occurring during a red sunset or dawn.
There have been 142 tetrads in the last 5,000 years.
Just before the dawn of 20th century, there had been 300 years without a single tetrad.
As rare as a tetrad may sometimes be, there are even fewer that have the Jewish full moon feasts of Passover and Tabernacles (Sukkoth) occurring on every moon of the tetrad.
There have been only seven such tetrads since 01 A. D., and the ones occurring this year and next will be the eighth. Eight is the number of Messiah.
Tetrad of 162-163 The worst Roman persecutions of Christians and Jews occurred.
Tetrad of 795-796 Charlemagne is established as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, and is a figurative precursor of Antichrist.
Tetrad of 842-843 Rome, a key center of Christianity by this time, is looted by an Islamic Invasion
Tetrad of 860-861 Jews and Christians suffer great persecutions before Islamic Invasion are finally stopped.
Tetrad of 1493-1494 Isabella (the Latin form of the name Jezebel) orders Jews out of Spain, causing immense hardship.
Tetrad of 1949-1950 This is the first actual year of government of the new Israeli State.
Tetrad of 1967-1968 Israel recaptures Jerusalem.
Tetrad of 2014-2015 Perhaps the unrest in the Middle East and the current worldwide financial woes will produce momentous events for Israel and the Church.
The tetrad that began on April 15 will have the eclipses timed as follows:
Passover, April 15, 2014
Tabernacles, October 8, 2014
Passover, April 4, 2015
Tabernacles, September 28, 2015
In addition to the blood moon tetrad, there will be significant solar eclipses occurring during this period in 2014-2015. These are as follows:
Jewish Religious New Year – March 20, 2015 – total eclipse, viewable Iceland, Europe, Northern Africa and Northern Asia.
Feast of Trumpets – Secular New Year – partial eclipse -September 13, 2015 –viewable, Southern Africa, Southern India and Antarctica.
Total Solar eclipses occur about once every 18 months on average. The odds of having two viewable in the same place on earth is rare — once about every 360 to 410 years. Hence, total solar eclipses seem to be very rare.
Tables of total eclipses show that only some of these 8 tetrads we are studying had total eclipses occurring on Jewish Feast days.
A. D. 162-163 None occurred.
A. D. 795-796 One total eclipse on the Jewish Religious Calendar New Year
A. D. 842-843 One total eclipse on a Feast of Trumpets
A. D. 860-861 One total eclipse on a Feast of Trumpets
A. D. 1493-1494 None occurred.
A. D. 1949-1950 One total eclipse on a Feast of Trumpets
A. D. 1967-1968 One total eclipse on a Feast of Trumpets
A. D. 2014-2015 One total eclipse on a Jewish Religious Calendar New Year
So then, four of the eight tetrads have had a total eclipse occur on one of the two Feasts of Trumpets taking place in their span. The Feast of Trumpets – Rosh Hoshanna, signals you to get ready for the Day of Atonement, the day that prefigures God’s judgment day (Joel 2).
This prophecy of Joel, “The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord” (Joel 2:31 NIV), is quoted in Acts 2:20 and by Jesus in Matthew 24:29 . It is alluded to in Revelation 6:12.
Furthermore, Joel 2:15 gives us a glimpse of the trumpet being blown to warn the people of Israel: “Blow the trumpet in Zion,” the prophet says, typifying the warning that is given on Rosh Hoshanna, preparing the way for God’s Day of Atonement.
There are phenomenal similarities between the plagues of Revelation and the Plagues sent upon Egypt in the book of Exodus. The Sixth seal of Revelation Chapter 6 is the last prelude to the seventh and final seal – the seal that unlocks seven Trumpets of Judgment, and eventually, seven Bowls of Wrath. It is total darkness (Rev. 6:12-13). Likewise, the Ninth Plague of the Exodus – the prelude to the ultimate judgment – the Death of the Firstborn – is also total darkness (Ex. 10:21-23).
What are seals? They are things that seal up a scroll. But when the scroll is finally unfurled – your judgment is unfolded before you.
In many ways, the world we live in is plunging into total moral darkness. If we can discern this, surely this is a trumpet of warning being blown. Surely God’s judgment is at hand!
